FROM 02. APRIL

NEW at Asbachgasse

How it all began:

After a visit to „MAD“ (Mechanical Art and Design) in the Shakespeare town „Stafford upon Avon“, we were so enthusiastic to open a similar location in our home town of Rüdesheim am Rhein. We already owned a small traditional collection but still missed the modern automatas - mostly developped by English artists and underlined by their sense of humor.

Fortunate circumstances of life came true: on the occasion of 50th anniversary of our family-owned "Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet" - we organized an "Automata Festival" in Asbachgasse with walking acts, attracting the whole city center of Rüdesheim. Here our attention was drawn to an Italian collection of modern automata – the "Modern Automata Museum" of Guido Accascina . He had been looking for new premises for his exhibits since a destruction caused by the earthquake in 2016.

Unique in the world

Guido and we both immediately hit it off very well and quickly came to an agreement. So most of his artwork collection was able to find the way to the "Mechanicum" in Rüdesheim. Especially the collection "Automata against the war", initiated by Guido and created by different artists on the occasion of "Desert Storm" exhibition, is unique in the world and unfortunately more topical than ever due to current world affairs.

Even though Corona postponed the opening for about 2 years we are happy to announce that finally our MECHANICUM is open to the public.
